Praktisch der ganze Staat sah Schnee, Temperaturen fielen auf bis zu minus 15 Grad Celsius. Auf den Strassen kam es teils zu chaotischen Zuständen, die auch Todesopfer forderten.
Dann das nächste Problem: Weil Pipelines und Windräder vereisten, kam es zu erheblichen Stromengpässen. Die Netzagentur des Bundesstaates kündigte rotierende Abschaltungen von Teilen des Netzes an, um einen kompletten Zusammenbruch der Versorgung zu verhindern.
In der Folge waren (und sind) bis am Montagabend Millionen Menschen ohne Strom. Und müssen in ihren kalten Häusern ausharren. Präsident Joe Biden hatte am Sonntagabend gar eine Notstandserklärung genehmigt.
Doch nicht alles ist schlecht. Zwar gibt es fast jedes Jahr in Teilen des Bundesstaates Schneestürme, doch an einen solchen, den ganzen Staat umfassenden Schneesturm können sich längst nicht alle erinnern. Viele Menschen genossen die Tage im Schnee und posteten ihre Erlebnisse auf Social Media. Eine kleine Auswahl.
